Viva La Verve July

It is that time of the month again, when all the Viva La Verve challenge cards are to be entered into the champion thread on SplitCoastStampers to be entered into the drawing for the next months Verve Stamp Release!

A Whole Lot Goin On!

Where to start! I made this card using all sort of techniques! So how about from the beginning! I went to Kerin's Stamp Paper Glitter and saw this sketch on Thursday morning:I new that I had wanted to try the technique called Poppin Pastels. You can find a tutorial for the technique HERE.

It was one of two techniques that could be chosen to do the Viva La Verve July Week 2 Challenge.

I didn't have chalks at the time, so I couldn't do the Poppin Pastels, and so I did the Burnt Batik option instead. That tutorial can be found HERE, and the card I did using that technique can be seen HERE! When I went to Joann's the other day, there was a four pack of blue chalks for $1, and I wanted to try the Poppin Pastels, so I went ahead and made the purchase! Because I only had blue chalks, I decided I wanted to do my card in blue! I just received my new Bevy Butterfly stamp set from Unity, so I new that was what I wanted to use in this card too.

I started my stamping by stamping the flowers from the Bevy set on the white base in VersaMark Ink. Once they were stamped, I used the blue chalks to go over the flowers, using all four shades of blue. I next decided to do the stip layer, and since I had just tried the faux grid technique from a challenge on SplitCoastStampers (SCS) and seen a different take on it from one of the members that I hadn't tried, and so decided that's what I wanted to do on this layer.
I scored a 1/2 inch grid on the layer before stamping the Bevy Butterflies in SU Tempting Turquoise. The ink bled a little into the score lines, so to make them pop a little more, I used my White Gel Pen to fill in the score lines and make the Turquoise color muted where it bled. (man I am wordy today!)

Finally, I had to decide what to do in the main layer on the sketch. I had seen that Verve was having their monthly Blog Hop, so I decided to use Verve stamps on this layer. My favorite Verve stamp is from the Because Of You set and is the flower! I decided to keep with the blues and stamped the image on a light blue layer.

Because I like to paper piece this image, I stamped the flowers again on some colorful scraps I had on my desk, cut them out, and layered on the image. I used dimension dots to pop up the main flower.

Lastly, I needed an sentiment, so I used Sweet on You from Verve for that. I added some pearls to my flowers, paper pierced the corners, put a clip on one corner, and called it good!

As I looked through all the current challenges at SCS, I saw that the Way to Use It challenge 227 required something done double in the card, which this qualified for with the two butterflies on the strip layer!

Another challenge was to use your wedding colors or high school colors... my wedding colors were blue, black, white! That challenge (LIMITED SUPPLY LSC229) also wanted to have a clip/a staple/or photo turns on the card... I used a clip!

Wow this card can be used for a lot! Here is a close up of the focal layer! Hope you didn't get too bored!

New SCS Challenge Entries

I made two cards so far this week for the challenges over at SplitCoastStampers. The first one is for the Featured Stamper Challenge which has a new stamper featured each Sunday and the challenge is to case their card, though you have to change at least two things in the case to make the card your own. I changed the color, the image, the sentiment, and the technique. You can see the card I cased HERE.

SCS challenge SC223

I made another card for the challenges over at Split Coast Stampers. The challenge was a Summer thing with anything goes. I used a tree stamp on the background paper, then again on 4 different green papers. I then cut out the branched outlined area in those greens and paper pieced them on top of the background to make all the trees a little different.

2 challenges, 1 card

Split Coast Stampers Unity Company had a challenge yesterday for their Hip Hop Thursday. The challenge was to use Kraft paper {but they aren't pick, so if you didn't have Kraft you could use a tan or a brown}. I actually had picked up Kraft paper last time I was at Joann's, and it was on sale!

Thursday is the day that Kerin at Stamps, Paper, Glitter puts out her new sketch. We are on sketch # 17. Here is her sketch:

I went a little scrap happy this morning! Over at SplitCoastStampers {SCS} there was another challenge to make a card with just ONE layer. That first layer had to start out as plain white card stock.

Another challenge on the SCS was to use a Clean & Simple {CAS} color challenge. The color challenge was to use Kraft/Pink/a coordinate. My coordinate was brown. Instead of making a card, I embellished a notebook I picked up at the $ Tree for $1. The binding area is a strip of brown while the covers are Kraft! TOO easy. I just added pink!

The last challenge I will share with you was a real butt kicker. I tried to do this one yesterday. The challenge was to use acetate {transparency paper} and print on it with a computer printer. The image is supposed to be black and white and then you flip the image over and color the back with markers. First of all, I don't have the right acetate for my printer. Second of all, no matter what I did, the ink couldn't/wouldn't/flat out refused to dry. This made flipping it over to color a bit difficult! Like Impossible to do without smudging a LOT. And then since it won't dry, now that the card is done, I can't give it away because the image will still smudge off! But anyhoo, I made the card, completed the challenge, and now I guess I can just throw this one in my round filing cabinet!
